Korean game developer Actoz Soft, China’s Shanda Games Group and Japan’s Square Enix announced a strategic alliance between the three companies at a press conference in Seoul on October 16.
At the press conference in Seoul, Actoz Soft CEO(Shanda Games Group VP) Chien Tung-hai and Square Enix EVP Honda Keiji signed a contract marking the companies’ strategic alliance following a presentation outlining its global mobile strategies and upcoming games that the partnership will foster.
Actoz Soft’s role will be to transfer and localize Square Enix games for the Korean and Southeast Asian markets. The two year contract will primarily see the release of mobile versions for Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 3 by the end of year. Actoz Soft’s subsidiary Playpie Games is developing the games, while Actoz Soft will be handling the publishing and business end. It will be the first time the series has been released in Korean and will eventually also be transferred to other markets including China.
CEO Chien talked about significance of partnering up with Square Enix, a well-respected and popular company in the game industry. “In the mobile market if you can’t make it to the top 100 then competition is enough for you to be forgotten. To be competitive it’s important to have the power of a famous brand.” Square Enix VP Honda expressed the importance of mobile gaming and said that in the long term it would become a strong market.
A lineup of 25 games upcoming games were presented including titles such as ‘Dragon Nest Labyrinth’, a mobile version of Actoz Soft’s current RPG ‘Latale’ named ‘Latale Town’ and 3D SNGs ‘Fallin Fallin’ and ‘Hell Lord’ from Playpie Games.
