Startup Nomad Begins Its Journey to Silicon Valley

Organized by The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and The National IT Industry Promotion Agency, and hosted by VentureSquare in collaboration with Plug&Play, a three month long global accelerator program called Startup Nomad has started it’s journey.

The process of selecting the eight teams has now concluded and they are now undergoing mentoring and coaching in preparation for what lies ahead. The selected companies and their products are:

• Smile Family– Smile Mom is an app for mothers to create memories of their children and to connect with other mothers having children with similar ages.
• JJS Media Co., Ltd.– MyMusicTaste is a web and mobile based concert making platform through the use of crowdfunding.
• Ultra Corp. – YourFriends is a social discovery app for teenagers, and Dieter, an app that helps motivate woman to reach their fitness and diet goals.
• Brilliantts Co., Ltd.– Brilliantts Smart TV Portal Service provides daily updated content  based on user interests and viewing habits.
• Golden Ears– Accudio is an app that improves sound quality for iPhones and other smartphones.
• CosmoAngel Co., Ltd.– ioNews is a mobile news service that shows news that is most relevant to the user.
• Design Your Life, Inc.– Design Your Body is a mobile application where a base is made of the user’s attributes to provide workouts that match the information.
• IT & Basic– Collabo! is an audience responsive system that helps the speaker and listener communicate with each other during lectures, conferences, speeches, etc.

We look forward to each team giving an interview before the end of the month. A more detailed profile of each team will be released soon!

The teams plan to leave in early  November for Silicon Valley to participate in an acceleration program at Plug&Play Tech Center.  Each team will undergo intensive mentoring and coaching to equip them with the tools to enter the global market. There will also be an opportunity to showcase the startup to local investors in the USA, and upon return to Korea, a Demo Day will be held.

In addition, a documentary showing the entire process of Startup Nomad and a comparison of Korea’s and Silicon Valley’s startup ecosystem will be produced and aired on Korean cable television.
