At the upcoming Superstar M conference which will be held at Seoul’s Plaza Hotel on May 31, a new method of “hypothetical” investment will be used for the first time. It will mean that participants at the event will have some influence over which startups are chosen for investment and the top prizes.
The third Superstar M conference will introduce a method by which participants can hypothetically take part in open investor relations with the seven companies. For example, preregistered and registered participants will be able to use imaginary seed money (10 million won, 5 million won, 1 million won etc.) and electronically vote for startups after viewing presentations and Q&A sessions. Appraisals of the companies by official judges will be combined with the participants’ “investments” to decide first and second place. The winning startup will receive 10 million won in prize money and the runner-up will receive 5 million won.
Though the official judges will have a strong influence over the “appraised value” of the company, it still means that participants can enjoy the event more by getting directly involved.
Until last year a “popular vote” method was used and the change to the new “appraisal” system reflects the event’s goal of selecting Korea’s leading startups.
Furthermore, selected teams from Superstar M will be supported by a new accelerator program, which VentureSquare was recently chosen to lead by the SMBA. Startups that are selected by VentureSquare will receive 10 million won in angel investment, 10 million won in matching investment from the government, and office space for 3-6 months free of charge. 제3회 슈퍼스타M에서는 참석자들이 슈퍼스타M 오픈IR 7개 업체에 가상으로 투자하는 방식을 도입할 예정이다. 예를 들어 슈퍼스타M 본행사에 사전 등록, 현장 등록한 참석자들은 가상 종잣돈(1000만원, 500만원, 100만원 등)을 갖고 각 스타트업의 프레젠테이션(PT)과 질의응답을 마친 후 전자투표 형식으로 투자를 하게 된다.
본선 심사위원들의 회사 가치 평가액과 관람객들의 가상 투자액이 적절한 방식으로 합산돼 대상과 우수상을 가릴 예정이다. 대상을 받은 스타트업에는 1000만원이 수여되고, 우수상은 500만원이 지원된다.
심사위원들의 회사 가치평가액이 높더라도 관람객의 가상 투자에서 뒤집힐 수 있어 흥미로운 결과가 나올 것으로 예상된다.
지난해까지는 `인기투표` 방식이었으나 올해부터 `가치평가`로 바뀐 것은 국내 최고 수준의 스타트업을 선발한다는 행사 취지를 반영한 것이다.
특히 슈퍼스타M을 공동 주관하는 벤처스퀘어가 중소기업청이 선정한 `한국형 엑셀러레이터`로 선정돼 슈퍼스타M에 선발된 업체들을 최우선 지원할 예정이다. 벤처스퀘어가 고르는 스타트업으로 뽑히면 엔젤 1000만원과 정부 매칭펀드 1000만원이 주어지고 3~6개월 동안 무상 임대공간과 창업투자자로 연결된다. 모바일창업코리아 사전 등록은 인터넷 홈페이지(superstarm.venturesquare.net)에서 받고 있다.
