Big Walk, how does it feel to be selected as the eight winner of Praise Relay?
First of all, thank you so much. Thank you all for the sincere interest and support you have given Big Walk! We will bottle up all our thankfulness and work harder so that Big Walk can grow, and provide better services without losing sight of our original intentions. We shall move one step forward everyday; one step towards sharing. Big Walk will continue to move forward.
Big Walk praises Nalebe!
All those important, valuable files: photos from a trip with friends, a diary of your own filled with the small details of everyday life, important company documents, video files that you’ve been collecting for a long time, etc.
Where are they all kept? Are they easy to find and look at? Everyone has had stressful experiences where you wonder ‘Uh… Where did I put that again?…’ right?
I was thinking about how great it would be if I could get all those scattered files and if I could gather and organize them in one place, when I actually found a web service platform that solved my problem. It’s Nalebe’s service ‘Cubbying.’ Managing information isn’t easy due to my busy schedule, yet thankfully it allows me to store my files in a neat and systematic manner. Much like Big Walk, which makes an effort to provide a service that blends into everyday life, Nalebe provides a platform that solves an inconvenience of everyday life.
More than just trying to be profitable, ‘Nalebe’ pursues a mission of conveying value by organizing people’s valuable data! We give Nalebe with our full-on support.
What’s Cubbying?
Cubbying provides an authentic life time documentation service so that you can keep and protect your documented files and all those moments you consider to be special and invaluable.
For example, other services only collect links, so if the original service’s data (photos, posts, videos) disappears, the data disappears along with it too. In other words, it’s not an authentic management of your data and memories. However, user content in Cubbying does not disappear unless the user deletes it voluntarily.
Moreover, we’ve come to think carefully about who the actual owner of the content should be. It’s basically an act of claiming back the rights to my own data. We are researching services based on the mission of “Let’s make our users’ lives happier.” That is why Cubbying is also known as the “Gallery of Life.”
What does ‘Cubbying’ mean?
Cubbying comes from ‘Cubby’, meaning somewhere that is my own space in which I can put things that are valuable to me. Also, those small bookshelves or cupboards, that kids start using as hideouts, are known as Cubbyholes.
It’s a term that can be a bit unfamiliar to domestic users, yet for those used to English; it’s a term that conjures the nostalgia of the past and memories dear to the heart.
How was ‘Cubbying’ started?
Today’s young generation has grown up with an overwhelming amount of services at hand.
From the introduction of the computer to the smartphone, we have received so many benefits from the flood of information and technology, but have unknowingly lost so many things at the same time.
So many photos are taken and uploaded in a day, yet in reality, all this content is strictly speaking, not ours, and with the passage of time, or while they are not taken care of, are disappearing.
In reality, there are cases in which there are no photo albums, or not enough time to look through all those photos stored in our hard drives. Moreover, it’s hard to even remember where and in which service all those valuable memories are stored in.
Cubbying Dreams of Expanding Globally
Before establishing the company Nalebe, we got selected by the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development as an entry business for Silicon Valley and participated in on-site training. We could grasp the market needs of the scene in Silicon Valley at the time, and carried out our service’s planning and development based on plans to move into the global market from the beginning.
Also, some time ago, Nalebe was chosen as one of the Top 20 teams for the SmartGrowth Business program that is held by KOTRA & Microsoft. Based on this, we are planning to advance globally in the second half of the year and hoping to register our company overseas. We ask for a lot of your support as we are the only Korean team debuting among the Seed-Stage TOP 10 at the 2012 GMIC Silicon Valley event. Our Android version application will soon be released as well. (mid-October)
Cubbying’s future?
Cubbying is a platform service. With the start of this service, we will be releasing several service features in the future. The services that we will be consecutively releasing will be for those of us who strive to live our lives to the fullest.

커빙은 여러분이 소중하게 생각하는 모든 순간, 그리고 그 순간을 기록한 모든 콘텐츠들을 잃지 않고 지킬 수 있는 진정한 life time documentation 서비스입니다.
예를 들면 타 서비스는 링크만 수집하기 때문에 원본 서비스에서 콘텐츠(사진,글, 동영상)가 사라지면 같이 사라집니다. 진정한 자신의 콘텐츠, 추억관리가 아닌거죠. 하지만 커빙에서의 사용자 콘텐츠는 사용자의 자진 삭제가 아니고서는 사라지지 않습니다. 그리고 또한 콘텐츠의 진정한 소유권자가 누가 되어야 하는지 곰곰히 생각해 보게 됩니다. 내 콘텐츠의 권리를 되찾아 오는 겁니다. “사용자의 삶을 더욱 행복하게 만들자” 라는 미션으로 서비스를 연구하고 있습니다. 그래서 커빙을 “삶의 미술관” 이라고도 합니다.
Cubbying이 무슨 뜻인가요?
커빙의 영문 표기명 Cubbying에서 Cubby는, 소중한 것들을 담을 수 있는 나만의 공간이라는 뜻도 가지고 있습니다. 또한, 작은 책장이나 장식장, 어린이들이 만드는 자신들만의 아지트를 Cubby hole이라고 부르는데, 국내 사용자들에게는 조금 생소한 단어일 수 있지만, 영어가 익숙한 분들에게는 추억과 소중함이 포함된 향수를 불러일으키는 의미로 선택하게 되었습니다.
Cubbying은 어떤 계기로 만들게 되었나요?
최근 젊은 세대는 굉장히 다양한 서비스들과 함께 성장해 왔습니다. 컴퓨터의 등장부터 스마트폰에 이르기까지, 정보와 기술의 홍수 속에서 많은 혜택도 받았지만 한편으로는 많은 것들을 우리도 모르는 사이에 잃어왔습니다. 하루에도 수 많은 사진이 찍히고 업로드 되지만, 사실 그 모든 콘텐츠 들은 엄밀히 말해서 우리의 소유가 아니고, 시간의 흐름에 따라, 혹은 돌보지 않는 사이 없어지고 있습니다. 실제로 사진 앨범도 없는 경우가 많고, 외장하드에 담겨있는 많은 사진들을 다시 돌아보기에는 시간적 여유가 충분치 않으며, 심지어 지금은 그 소중한 추억들이 대체 어느 서비스에, 어디에 있는지 기억할 수 없습니다. 내일비는 실제 주변의 안타까운 사연들을 통해 혹은 우리의 스토리를 통해 그 필요성을 깊이 공감하게 되었습니다.
글로벌 진출을 꿈꾸는 Cubbying
내일비라는 회사 설립 전, 창업진흥원의 실리콘밸리 진출사업에 선정되어서 현지 연수를 다녀왔습니다. 당시 실리콘밸리 현지에서 시장 니즈를 파악하였고, 처음부터 글로벌 진출에 맞춰서 서비스 기획 및 개발이 진행되었습니다.
또한, 내일비가 얼마 전 KOTRA&MS에서 진행하는 Smart Growth 사업에 Top20팀으로 선정이 되었습니다. 이를 기반으로 하반기 해외 진출을 계획하고 있으며 법인 설립까지도 희망하고 있습니다. 이번 2012 GMIC Silicon Valley 에서도 Seed-Stage TOP 10중 유일한 한국팀으로 첫 선을 보이는 만큼 많은 응원 부탁 드립니다. 안드로이드 버전 어플리케이션도 곧 출시 됩니다.(10월 中)
