Petsbe Brings Subscription Commerce to Pet Owners

Subscription services such as Memebox and Glossy Box have been gaining popularity in Korea and have mainly focused on cosmetic products and accessories until now. New startup Petsbe recently launched its new subscription service which caters to the entirely different market of pets and their owners.

The service was founded by CEO Jong-min Shim, who previously co-founded IT startup Linkyt, after wondering if there was a service that delivered food for pets every month. Unlike other subscription services which offer fixed sample portions at reduced prices to customers, Petsbe lets users select their dog’s age, weight and health condition so that they are provided with the best products for man’s best friend.

Food is not the only thing on offer, with monthly portions of snacks and hygiene products, plus toys also included in the boxes. The team at Petsbe check the raw ingredients, as well as production and distribution processes to make sure that products are safe for pets.

Despite claiming to be a premium subscription service, Petsbe still has modest prices, with the first box in February being 62% cheaper than if products were purchased separately. The company itself has its share of talent with experience in the startup industry including the co-founder of Ticket Monster Seong-yoon Shin and former director at Groupon Chun-seop Kim. CEO Shim commented on the launch of the service, saying,

“There are a lot of cases of those who are highly involved with their pets and that spend a lot of money on them, favoring lower quality food because of incorrect information. Petsbe is not just about simply getting products delivered regularly, but establishing a platform where consumers and brands can communicate with each other by highlighting quality pet brands.”

While Petsbe boxes are currently only available for dogs, the company says that it is planning to release a box for cats in the coming months after carrying out market research.
