Apple and Facebook have started adding new incentives for their female employees: both companies will now pay for egg freezing procedures.
According to NBC, Facebook will offer financial support for women who decide to freeze their eggs as part of their insurance benefits. The social network titan will cover up to $20,000 worth of treatment cost as an added perk for women working at Facebook.
The treatment price of egg freezing can range anywhere from $8,000 to $12,000 (Eggsurance) with added costs for storage.
Apple will offer coverage for employees who undergo treatment to freeze their eggs starting in January 2015, according to NBC. Tech companies have been exploring ways to diversify in light of statistics that reveal an overwhelmingly male-dominated workforce. According to CNN, male employees make up about 70% of the global employees at both Apple and Facebook.
Though frozen eggs do not guarantee pregnancy, Apple and Facebook employees now have more alternative options in their careers.
