중소벤처기업부(장관 오영주, 이하 중기부)는 지난 10일(현지시간) 미국 실리콘밸리에서 열린 ‘UKF 82스타트업 서밋 2025’가 성황리에 개최됐다고 밝혔다.
이번 ‘UKF 82 스타트업 서밋 2025’는 미국 내 한인 벤처투자자 및 스타트업이 모인 민간 단체 UKF가 주최했으며, 중기부는 행사 개최 및 국내 스타트업의 IR 참여 등을 지원하며 후원기관으로 협력했다.
‘82 스타트업’은 한국의 국가 전화번호인 ‘82’를 따서 만든 이름에서 알 수 있듯이, 미국 내 한인 벤처투자자와 스타트업이 상호간 협력하기 위해 만든 모임이다. ’18년 소규모로 시작한 모임은 현재 회원수가 1,500명에 이를 정도로 급격히 확대되며, 미국 내 한인 벤처·스타트업을 대표하는 네트워크로 성장하였고, 매년 미국 최대 규모 한인 스타트업 행사인 ‘82 스타트업 서밋’을 개최했다.
지난해(’24.10월) ‘82 스타트업’을 포함한, 미국 전역을 연결하는 UKF(한인창업자연합)가 공식적인 법인으로 출범하면서, 기존의 ‘82 스타트업 서밋’ 행사가 ‘UKF 82 스타트업 서밋’이라는 이름으로 올해 개최됐다.
행사는 스타트업 투자유치 설명회(IR), 네트워킹 오찬·만찬, 주요 연사 강연, 글로벌시장 진출 전략 설명회 등으로 구성됐다.
1월 10일 첫날 행사에서는 한국 스타트업의 투자유치 IR이 개최되었다. IR은 중기부의 글로벌 투자유치 플랫폼 ‘K-Global Star’에서 선발한 5개 스타트업이 참여하여, 미국 전역의 한인 투자자들 앞에서 활발한 투자유치 활동을 펼쳤다. 참여한 5개 스타트업은 반도체, AI, ICT, 바이오‧헬스케어 등 첨단 분야에서 한국 스타트업의 우수한 기술력을 현지에 선보였다.
이 날 한인 투자자 및 스타트업을 격려하기 위해 참석한 중기부 김성섭 차관은 축사를 통해 “한인창업자연합 UKF가 민간에서 자생적으로 조직되고 1,500명이 넘는 네트워크로 성장한 것은 매우 큰 의미가 있다. 오늘 행사를 계기로 중기부는 UKF와 지속 협력하여 K스타트업의 미국 진출을 위해 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
또한 “중기부는 UKF를 비롯해 미국에서 한인 창업자와 벤처투자자들의 활동을 적극 지원하는 한편, 미국을 시작으로 아시아와 유럽 등 전세계 주요국가에서도 한인 벤처·스타트업 네트워크가 활성화되고 글로벌 투자 네트워크와 연결되도록 역할을 하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 김성섭 차관은 ‘UKF 82 스타트업 2025’ 행사에 참석한 이후 올해 실리콘밸리에 개소할 예정인 K-벤처‧스타트업 종합지원 사무소 후보지를 방문하여 준비상황을 점검하고, 현지 한국인 벤처캐피탈 및 스타트업 대표 등과 K스타트업의 미국 진출전략과 투자유치를 논의하는 간담회를 주재했다.
