네이버㈜(대표이사 최수연)가 한국생태학회(회장 정철의)와 생물다양성 보전 방안을 발굴하고 ESG경영을 고도화하기 위해 지난 15일 업무협약을 체결했다.
이번 협업으로 네이버와 한국생태학회는 데이터센터 각 춘천과 커넥트원 주변 생태 현황을 파악하는 연구 조사를 진행하고 춘천 지역 사업장을 10년 이상 친환경적으로 운영해 온 성과를 분석한다. 네이버는 한국생태학회의 자문을 바탕으로 친환경 데이터센터 운영을 위한 생물다양성 보전 활동을 발굴하는 등 IT/플랫폼 업계에 특화된 환경경영 정책을 선도적으로 마련하겠다는 계획이다.
한편 이번 업무협약은 플랫폼 기업과 한국생태학회가 협력한 첫 사례다. 네이버는 전문성 있는 학계와의 협업으로 최근 국제 사회에서 중요도가 높아진 생물다양성 분야에서도 환경영향 저감 실천을 위한 ESG경영 체계를 구축하겠다는 방침이다.
네이버의 ESG 정책을 담당하는 임동아 Green Partnership 리더는 “네이버는 국내 ESG경영을 이끄는 플랫폼 기업으로써 사옥 및 데이터센터의 입지 선정부터 운영의 전 과정에서 생태계의 지속가능성을 고려해왔다”며 “앞으로도 학계와 지속적으로 소통해 생태영향을 줄일 수 있는 방안을 구체화할 계획”이라고 말했다.
정철의 한국생태학회 회장(국립안동대학교 교수)은 “네이버와의 협력은 디지털과 생태학의 만남을 통해 생물다양성 보전 등 지속가능한 미래를 열어가는 중요한 시도이며 특히 미래세대 생태학자들에게 많은 동기부여가 될 것”이라고 전했다.

Naver and the Ecological Society of Korea collaborate
Naver Corp. (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) signed a business agreement with the Ecological Society of Korea (Chairman Jeong Cheol-ui) on the 15th to discover biodiversity conservation measures and advance ESG management.
