국제금융공사(IFC)가 나이지리아 라고스 자유무역지대(Lagos Free Zone) 개발을 지원하기 위해 최대 5000만달러를 투자하기로 했다고 라고스 자유무역지대를 소유·운영하고 있는 싱가포르 기업 톨라람(Tolaram)이 발표했다.
이 투자는 나이지리아의 핵심 인프라 격차를 해소해 글로벌 경쟁력을 강화하기 위한 것으로 토지 개발, 산업 시설, 물류 인프라를 확장함으로써 860헥타르에 이르는 라고스 자유무역지대의 1단계 개발을 가속할 전망이다. 레키 심해 항구(Lekki Deep Sea Port)와 바로 연결된 라고스 자유무역지대는 원활한 수출입 절차를 촉진할 효율적인 통합 산업 생태계를 조성할 수 있는 독보적 입지를 갖추고 있다. 이를 발판으로 나이지리아는 글로벌 가치 사슬에서 핵심 역할을 할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

라고스 자유무역지대가 본격 가동되면 직간접 일자리와 유도 일자리 3만개가 창출될 것으로 예상되며 이는 나이지리아 경제에 장기적 이익을 제공할 전망이다. 2026년 나이지리아의 경제 성장률이 3.7%로 예상되는 가운데 이번 투자는 국가의 지속적 성장과 경제 탄력성을 담보하는 데 반드시 필요하다.
달리아 칼리파(Dahlia Khalifa) IFC 중부 아프리카·서부 아프리카 영어권 지역 담당 이사는 “IFC는 나이지리아의 포용적 경제 성장과 지속 가능한 개발을 촉진하기 위해 노력하고 있으며 이번 투자 역시 그러한 맥락에서 이뤄졌다”고 설명했다. 그는 “라고스 자유무역지대는 산업 활동을 혁신하고 일자리 창출을 촉진하며 세계 시장에서 나이지리아의 글로벌 경쟁력을 높이는 중심지가 될 것”이라며 “IFC가 라고스 자유무역지대와 협력해 현지 및 세계 기업을 유치하는 데 필요한 인프라를 구축하고 나이지리아가 경제적 잠재력을 발휘할 수 있도록 지원하는 데 자부심을 느낀다”고 말했다.
한편 라고스 자유무역지대 투자는 녹색 인프라 중심의 지속 가능한 개발을 추구하는 IFC의 의지도 반영하고 있다. 총 투자액의 약 15%가 기후 관련 이니셔티브에 할당됐으며, 여기에는 친환경 EDGE(Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) 인증 건물 및 기후 탄력적 인프라가 포함돼 있다.

IFC to invest $50 million in Lagos Free Trade Zone, Nigeria
The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will invest up to $50 million to support the development of the Lagos Free Zone in Nigeria, Singapore-based Tolaram, which owns and operates the zone, has announced.
This investment will accelerate the development of the 860-hectare first phase of the Lagos Free Zone by expanding land development, industrial facilities and logistics infrastructure to address Nigeria’s critical infrastructure gaps and enhance its global competitiveness. With direct access to the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Lagos Free Zone is uniquely positioned to create an efficient integrated industrial ecosystem that will facilitate seamless import and export processes. This will position Nigeria to play a key role in global value chains.
This investment will help Nigeria solidify its position as a regional economic hub in Africa and drive long-term prosperity, while creating new business opportunities by removing bottlenecks in key infrastructure and improving connectivity.

The Lagos Free Zone is home to Nigeria's most advanced deep-water port, the Port of Lekki, and several manufacturing companies, including Kellogg's, Dano Milk, Colgate, BASF, ADM, and Tata International.
Once fully operational, the Lagos Free Zone is expected to create 30,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs, which will provide long-term benefits to the Nigerian economy. With Nigeria’s economic growth projected at 3.7% in 2026, this investment is essential to ensure the country’s continued growth and economic resilience.

Approximately 15% of the total investment is allocated to climate-related initiatives, including green Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) certified buildings and climate-resilient infrastructure.
This investment is in line with Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms and is aligned with IFC’s broader strategic frameworks, including the World Bank Group’s Nigeria Country Partnership Framework 2021-2025 and the 2015 Climate Action Plan. Both frameworks prioritize economic diversification, development of competitive business clusters, and investment in climate-resilient infrastructure.

L'IFC va investir 50 millions de dollars dans la zone franche de Lagos, au Nigéria
La Société financière internationale (IFC) investira jusqu'à 50 millions de dollars pour soutenir le développement de la zone franche de Lagos au Nigéria, a annoncé Tolaram, basée à Singapour, qui possède et exploite la zone.
L’investissement devrait accélérer le développement de la phase 1 de la zone franche de Lagos, d’une superficie de 860 hectares, en élargissant l’aménagement du territoire, les installations industrielles et l’infrastructure logistique, visant à combler les lacunes critiques du Nigéria en matière d’infrastructures pour améliorer sa compétitivité mondiale. Directement reliée au port en eau profonde de Lekki, la zone franche de Lagos est particulièrement bien placée pour créer un écosystème industriel intégré efficace qui facilitera les procédures d'importation et d'exportation transparentes. En s’appuyant sur ces bases, le Nigéria devrait jouer un rôle clé dans la chaîne de valeur mondiale.
Cet investissement aidera le Nigéria à consolider sa position de pôle économique régional en Afrique et à favoriser la prospérité à long terme, tout en créant de nouvelles opportunités commerciales en supprimant les goulots d’étranglement dans les infrastructures clés et en améliorant la connectivité.
