의료 인공지능 기업 카이헬스가 의료기기 3등급 허가를 득한 인공지능 배아분석 소프트웨어(Vita Embryo)가 식품의약품안전처로부터 혁신의료기기로 지정됐다.
혁신의료기기는 첨단 기술의 적용이나 사용방법의 개선 등을 통해, 기존 의료기기, 치료법 대비 안전성과 유효성을 현저한 개선 또는 개선 예상되는 의료기기로써 식품의약품안전처장으로부터 지정을 받은 의료기기를 의미한다.
최근 결혼과 임신 연령이 높아짐에 따라 자연 임신에 어려움을 겪고 있는 환자가 계속 늘어나고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 반복되는 임신 실패와 체외수정시술의 경제적 부담으로 인해 여성의 신체적, 정신적 건강 문제가 대두되고 있다. 카이헬스의 인공지능 기술은 임신 가능성이 높은 배아의 우선순위 결정을 지원하고, 체외수정시술의 성공률을 높여 난임 및 저출산 문제를 효과적으로 극복할 수 있을 것으로 기대되고 있다.
카이헬스는 건강보험심사평가원에 해당기술이 요양급여대상, 비급여대상 여부를 확인 중이고, 이 결과를 바탕으로 한국보건의료연구원 (NECA)에 ‘신의료기술평가 유예’ 신청 및 최종적으로 올해 비급여 수가를 받는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.
난임 전문 산부인과 의사 출신인 카이헬스 이혜준 대표는 “난임 시술은 기술 장벽이 높고 의료진의 수가 부족해 인공지능 기술이 크게 도움이 될 수 있다”며 “혁신의료기기 지정 및 신의료기술평가를 성공적으로 통과하고, 국내 시장을 시작으로 빠르게 글로벌로 확장해 더 많은 난임부부가 건강한 아기를 가질 수 있도록 도움을 주고 싶다”고 밝혔다.

In addition, repeated pregnancy failures and the financial burden of IVF treatment are raising physical and mental health problems in women. Kai Health's artificial intelligence technology is expected to support the priority determination of embryos with high pregnancy potential and increase the success rate of IVF treatment, effectively overcoming the problems of infertility and low birth rate.
Kai Health is currently checking with the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service to determine whether the technology is eligible for medical care benefits or not, and based on the results, it is applying for a ‘new medical technology assessment deferral’ to the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (NECA) and aims to receive a final non-coverage fee this year.
“Infertility treatments have high technological barriers and a shortage of medical staff, so AI technology can be of great help,” said Lee Hye-jun, CEO of Kai Health and a former obstetrician/gynecologist specializing in infertility. “We want to successfully pass the innovative medical device designation and new medical technology assessment, and quickly expand globally starting with the domestic market to help more infertile couples have healthy babies.”

« Les traitements contre l’infertilité sont confrontés à des obstacles technologiques importants et à une pénurie de personnel médical. L’IA peut donc être d’une grande aide », a déclaré Lee Hye-jun, PDG de Kai Health et ancien obstétricien/gynécologue spécialisé dans l’infertilité. « Nous voulons obtenir avec succès la désignation de dispositif médical innovant et l’évaluation des nouvelles technologies médicales, et nous développer rapidement à l’échelle mondiale en commençant par le marché intérieur pour aider davantage de couples infertiles à avoir des bébés en bonne santé. »
