엘앤에프는 20일 미국 현지 LFP(리튬·인산·철) 생산 준비를 위해 현지 파트너사인 미트라켐(Mitra Chem)에 약 145억원 규모의 지분투자 결정을 공시했다. 투자는 미트라켐의 시리즈 B-1(Series B-1) 라운드 우선주 취득 방식으로 진행된다.
미트라켐은 테슬라 출신 비바스 쿠마르(Vivas Kumer)가 미국 내 LFP 공급망 구축 및 IRA 규정을 준수하는 제품 생산을 목적으로 2021년에 설립했으며, 2023년까지 GM을 포함한 투자자들로부터 7천5백만 달러($75M)의 투자를 성공적으로 유치했다.
미트라켐은 현재 수 톤 규모의 LFP 제품을 고객사로부터 테스트받고 있으며, 차세대 소재인 LFMP 및 전구체프리 LFP 양극 소재도 개발 중이다. 특히 R&D에 자체 AI와 자동화를 적용하여 개발한 고유의 가속화 플랫폼을 통해 개발 기간을 대폭 단축하면서도 대량의 제품을 신속하게 개발할 수 있다고 밝혔다.
엘앤에프는 이번 투자를 통해 미트라켐과의 전략적 협업 관계를 강화하고 미국 LFP 현지 생산을 위한 교두보로 활용할 계획이다. 미트라켐은 이미 연구 및 기술 개발에서 뛰어난 성과를 보이며, 미국 연방정부 에너지부(Department of Energy, DOE)로부터 1억 달러($100M) 규모의 보조금을 확보했다. 또한, 미시건 주정부로부터 2천5백만 달러($25M)에 달하는 추가 보조금을 확보하며 대량 양산을 위한 투자를 준비하고 있다. 양사는 협력을 통해 미국 내 LFP 상업생산을 2027년부터 시작할 예정이다.
양사는 이번 협업으로 완성차 업체들이 요구하는 관세 리스크 최소화와 탈중국 흐름에 효과적으로 대응할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다. 특히 미국 내에서 LFP 소재를 최초로 생산함으로써 미국 내 중저가용 LFP 배터리를 사용하고자 하는 고객사들로부터 이미 많은 관심을 받고 있다.
엘앤에프 CFO 류승헌 부사장은 “지난 1월 미국 현지 실사를 통해 미트라켐의 기술력과 LFP 생산 부지를 확인했다”면서 “엘앤에프의 대량 양산 경험과 미트라켐의 현지 조달능력, 미국 내 고객 및 파트너사를 통해 빠르고 안정적으로 미국 시장에 진출하겠다”고 밝혔다.

L&F decides to invest 14.5 billion won in Mitrachem
On the 20th, LNF announced its decision to invest approximately KRW 14.5 billion in local partner Mitra Chem to prepare for local LFP (lithium phosphate iron) production in the United States. The investment will be made in the form of acquiring preferred stocks in Mitra Chem’s Series B-1 round.
Mitrachem was founded in 2021 by Tesla alumnus Vivas Kumar with the aim of establishing a LFP supply chain in the US and manufacturing products in compliance with IRA regulations, and has successfully raised $75M from investors including GM by 2023.
Mitrachem is currently testing multi-ton LFP products with customers, and is also developing next-generation materials, LFMP and precursor-free LFP cathode materials. In particular, the company said that its unique acceleration platform, developed by applying its own AI and automation to R&D, can significantly shorten the development period while rapidly developing large quantities of products.
Through this investment, L&F plans to strengthen its strategic collaboration with Mitrachem and use it as a bridgehead for local LFP production in the United States. Mitrachem has already demonstrated outstanding performance in research and technology development and has secured a $100M grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). In addition, it is preparing to invest in mass production by securing an additional $25M grant from the Michigan state government. Through this collaboration, the two companies plan to begin commercial production of LFP in the United States starting in 2027.
The two companies expect that this collaboration will help automakers minimize tariff risks and effectively respond to the de-China trend. In particular, as the first company to produce LFP materials in the U.S., the company is already receiving a lot of attention from customers who want to use low- to mid-priced LFP batteries in the U.S.
L&F CFO Vice President Seung-Heon Ryu stated, “We confirmed Mitrachem’s technological prowess and LFP production site through an on-site inspection in the U.S. last January.” He added, “We will quickly and stably enter the U.S. market through L&F’s mass production experience, Mitrachem’s local procurement capabilities, and our U.S. customers and partners.”

L&F décide d'investir 14,5 milliards de wons dans Mitrachem
Le 20, LNF a annoncé sa décision d'investir environ 14,5 milliards de wons dans son partenaire local Mitra Chem pour préparer la production locale de LFP (phosphate de fer lithium) aux États-Unis. L'investissement sera réalisé sous la forme d'un tour d'acquisition d'actions privilégiées de série B-1 de Mitrachem.
Mitrachem a été fondée en 2021 par Vivas Kumar, ancien élève de Tesla, dans le but d'établir une chaîne d'approvisionnement LFP aux États-Unis et de fabriquer des produits conformes aux réglementations IRA, et a levé avec succès 75 millions de dollars auprès d'investisseurs, dont GM, d'ici 2023.

Mitrachem a déjà démontré des performances exceptionnelles en matière de recherche et de développement technologique et a obtenu une subvention de 100 millions de dollars du ministère américain de l'Énergie (DOE). De plus, elle s’apprête à investir dans la production de masse en obtenant une subvention supplémentaire pouvant atteindre 25 millions de dollars de la part de l’État du Michigan. Les deux sociétés prévoient de collaborer pour démarrer la production commerciale de LFP aux États-Unis à partir de 2027.
Les deux entreprises espèrent que cette collaboration répondra efficacement à la minimisation des risques tarifaires et à la tendance de dé-Chine exigée par les constructeurs automobiles. En particulier, en tant que première entreprise à produire des matériaux LFP aux États-Unis, elle a déjà suscité beaucoup d’intérêt de la part de clients cherchant à utiliser des batteries LFP à prix bas et moyen aux États-Unis.
Seung-Heon Ryu, vice-président directeur financier de L&F, a déclaré : « Nous avons confirmé la maîtrise technologique de Mitrachem et son site de production de LFP lors d'une inspection sur site aux États-Unis en janvier dernier. » Il a ajouté : « Nous entrerons rapidement et durablement sur le marché américain grâce à l'expérience de L&F en matière de production de masse, aux capacités d'approvisionnement local de Mitrachem et à nos clients et partenaires américains. »
