국내 나트륨 배터리 업계 에너지11이 해외 기업과의 전략적 제휴를 바탕으로 사우디아라비아를 비롯한 중동 시장에 본격적인 진출을 준비한다.
국내 나트륨 이온 전지 기술을 선도하는 에너지11(대표이사 이상규)은 사우디아라비아의 전지 소재 기업인 ‘그래핀선(GrapheneSun,)’과 기술 협력 및 사업 확장을 위한 업무협약(MOU)를 체결했다고 21일 밝혔다.
이번 MOU를 통해 나트륨 이온 전지 기술 이전 및 소재 공급, 설비 판매 등을 추진하고, 사우디아라비아에서 이루어지는 국가 차원의 배터리 산업 진흥 정책에 맞는 다양한 협력을 진행한다. 기초 소재는 현지 생산을 하지만, 배터리 관련한 전반적인 기술과 소재는 에너지11이 제공할 예정이다.
그래핀선은 소재와 제품을 연구하고 제조하는 기업으로 본사와 생산 시설은 사우디아라비아에 위치해 있다. 사우디아라비아 광물 자원부의 적극적인 지원을 바탕으로 사업을 확장하고 있다.
에너지11은 국내 최초의 나트륨 이온 전지 기업으로 2025년 하반기부터 본격적인 양산 준비를 진행하고 있다. ESS 시장을 중심으로 한 나트륨 전지의 해외 실증 사업도 이번에 그래핀선과 협력하여 사우디아라비아에서 진행할 예정이다.
국내에서도 나트륨 이온 전지에 관한 연구들은 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 특히 에너지11이 총괄하는 ‘공급망 안전형 160Wh/kg 급 나트륨 이온 전지 개발’을 위한 대규모 국책과제를 중심으로 관련 업체 및 연구기관들이 함께 공동 개발을 진행 중이다. 이 과제의 목표는 중국산 리튬인산철(LFP) 전지의 성능을 넘어서는 나트륨 이온 전지를 개발하는 것이다.
나트륨 이온 배터리는 기존 상용화된 리튬 배터리 대비 가격 경쟁력을 갖추었을 뿐만 아니라 친환경성과 안정성까지 확보되어 리튬 이온 배터리를 대체할 수 있는 혁신적인 기술이라 평가받고 있다.
에너지11 관계자는 “에너지11과 그래핀선이 GCC 국가들에서 중국산 리튬인산철(LFP) 전지를 대체하고자 MOU를 체결했다. 특히 사우디아라비아의 ESS 시장에서 자국 인력의 핵심 사업자와 전략 산업 육성차원의 협력관계를 구축하여 시너지 효과가 기대된다”며 “또한 국책과제 연구를 기반으로 현재 ESS 시장에서 시장을 확장하고 있는 리튬인산철(LFP) 전지를 대체할 수 있는 나트륨 이온 전지로 해외 시장을 개척할 예정”이라고 전했다.

Energy 11, Graphene Line and Technology Cooperation and Business Expansion Business Agreement Signed
The domestic sodium battery industry Energy11 is preparing to make a full-scale entry into the Middle Eastern market, including Saudi Arabia, based on strategic alliances with overseas companies.
Energy 11 (CEO Sang-kyu Lee), a leader in domestic sodium-ion battery technology, announced on the 21st that it signed a business agreement (MOU) for technological cooperation and business expansion with GrapheneSun, a Saudi Arabian battery materials company.
Through this MOU, we will promote sodium ion battery technology transfer, material supply, equipment sales, etc., and carry out various cooperation in line with Saudi Arabia’s national battery industry promotion policy. The basic materials will be produced locally, but Energy 11 will provide the overall technology and materials related to batteries.
Graphene Sun is a company that researches and manufactures materials and products, and its headquarters and production facilities are located in Saudi Arabia. It is expanding its business based on the active support of the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Mineral Resources.
Energy 11 is the first sodium-ion battery company in Korea and is preparing for full-scale mass production starting in the second half of 2025. It also plans to conduct overseas demonstration projects for sodium batteries centered on the ESS market in Saudi Arabia in cooperation with Graphene Line.
Research on sodium-ion batteries is also actively being conducted in Korea. In particular, related companies and research institutes are conducting joint development centered on the large-scale national project for 'Development of a 160Wh/kg sodium-ion battery with supply chain safety' supervised by Energy 11. The goal of this project is to develop a sodium-ion battery that surpasses the performance of Chinese lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
Sodium-ion batteries are evaluated as an innovative technology that can replace lithium-ion batteries, as they are not only price competitive compared to existing commercial lithium batteries, but are also environmentally friendly and safe.
An Energy 11 official said, “Energy 11 and Graphene Sun signed an MOU to replace Chinese lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in GCC countries. In particular, we expect synergy effects by establishing a cooperative relationship with key domestic players and strategic industry fostering companies in the Saudi Arabian ESS market.” He added, “Based on national project research, we plan to open up overseas markets with sodium-ion batteries that can replace lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, which are currently expanding their market in the ESS market.”

国内ナトリウムイオン電池技術を先導するエネルギー11(代表理事イ・サンギュ)はサウジアラビアの電池素材企業である「グラフェン線(GrapheneSun,)」と技術協力及び事業拡張のための業務協約(MOU)を締結したと21日明らかにした。
今回のMOUを通じてナトリウムイオン電池技術移転や材料供給、設備販売などを推進し、サウジアラビアで行われる国家レベルのバッテリー産業振興政策に合った様々な協力を進める。基礎素材は現地生産をするが、バッテリー関連の全体的な技術と素材はエネルギー11が提供する予定だ。
グラフェン線は素材と製品を研究・製造する企業で、本社と生産施設はサウジアラビアに位置している。サウジアラビア鉱物資源部の積極的な支援をもとに事業を拡大している。
エネルギー11は国内初のナトリウムイオン電池企業で、2025年下半期から本格的な量産準備を進めている。 ESS市場を中心としたナトリウム電池の海外実証事業も今回、グラフェン船と協力してサウジアラビアで進行する予定だ。

エネルギー11関係者は「エネルギー11とグラフェン線がGCC国家で中国産リチウムリン酸鉄（LFP）電池を代替しようとMOUを締結した。電池を取り替えることができるナトリウムイオン電池で海外市場を開拓する予定だ」と伝えた。

Energy 11 (PDG Sang-kyu Lee), leader de la technologie des batteries sodium-ion nationales, a annoncé le 21 avoir signé un accord commercial (MOU) de coopération technologique et d'expansion commerciale avec GrapheneSun, une société saoudienne de matériaux de batterie.
Grâce à ce protocole d'accord, nous favoriserons le transfert de technologie des batteries sodium-ion, l'approvisionnement en matériaux, la vente d'équipements, etc., et mènerons diverses coopérations conformément à la politique nationale de promotion de l'industrie des batteries de l'Arabie saoudite. Energy 11 est la première entreprise coréenne de batteries sodium-ion et se prépare à une production de masse à grande échelle à partir du second semestre 2025. Des recherches sur les batteries sodium-ion sont également menées activement au niveau national. En particulier, des entreprises et des instituts de recherche liés mènent un développement conjoint centré sur un projet national à grande échelle visant à développer une batterie sodium-ion de 160 Wh/kg avec une chaîne d'approvisionnement sécurisée, qui est supervisé par Energy 11. L’objectif de ce projet est de développer une batterie sodium-ion qui surpasse les performances des batteries chinoises au lithium fer phosphate (LFP).
Les batteries sodium-ion sont considérées comme une technologie innovante qui peut remplacer les batteries lithium-ion, car elles sont non seulement compétitives en termes de prix par rapport aux batteries lithium commerciales existantes, mais sont également respectueuses de l'environnement et sûres.
Un responsable d'Energy 11 a déclaré : « Energy 11 et Graphene Sun ont signé un protocole d'accord pour remplacer les batteries lithium-fer-phosphate (LFP) chinoises dans les pays du CCG. Nous prévoyons notamment des synergies grâce à une coopération avec des acteurs nationaux clés et des entreprises stratégiques favorisant l'industrie sur le marché saoudien des systèmes de stockage d'énergie. » Il a ajouté : « Sur la base de recherches nationales, nous prévoyons d'ouvrir des marchés étrangers avec des batteries sodium-ion capables de remplacer les batteries lithium-fer-phosphate (LFP), qui développent actuellement leur marché sur le marché des systèmes de stockage d'énergie. »
