Mobile game developer Nerdgames has netted 1.3 billion won (USD $1.15m) in a joint investment from K Cube Ventures and Capstone Partners. The funding comes after an earlier investment of 500 million won, also from Capstone Partners, in January this year.
Nerdgames was founded in 2015 by a group of developers who originally worked at Bluehole Studio, the company behind flagship game ‘Tera’. Some members of the team have over 10 years’ experience developing MMORPGs, including popular title Lineage 2.
Using this experience, the company is currently developing a multi-character RPG called Crusader (tentative name), which combines real-time warfare and Aeon of Strife type play. The game will be a colorful one, full of expressive characters and Disney-style graphics to appeal to a global audience. Crusader is to feature strategic battles that are easy to manipulate through skills, and includes PVP and cooperative raid elements.
Nerdgames says that it plans to sign a publishing contract at the end of this year, and has penned in early next year as the time to launch the game in Korea. After its local release, the company plans to expand service globally, customizing the game for each country. To extend reach further, a web version which connects through Facebook is also in the works.
“Through this additional investment we will be able to focus on the stable development of Crusader and maximize completion of the game,” says Nerdgames CEO Min-gyu Park. “Using our many years of teamwork and experience developing and commercializing major RPG titles, we will create a unique game that can be enjoyed by users both in Korea, and abroad.”
