SoCar launches new door-to-door service across Seoul

Leading car-sharing company Socar has officially launched its door-to-door service following a successful trial over the past year.

While SoCar generally requires customers to pick up cars from designated locations, ‘SoCar Call’ lets you pick up your car from anywhere in Seoul. The new feature makes it easier for customers that live far from SoCar zones to borrow vehicles, and would be handy if you’ve got a lot of luggage too.

SoCar Call can be accessed by selecting the option directly from the SoCar app or website. After entering your location and information, all you need to do is choose your car and wait. When returning the vehicle, simply park it at the same place you picked it up, and lock it with the in-app smart key.

The new service can be used around Seoul between 8am and 12am every day, and cars need to be booked two hours prior to allow the vehicle to be delivered. If the car arrives earlier than expected, a feature on the app lets you use it right away, without having to wait for the reserved time. Calling a vehicle to meet you will cost 8000 won extra, and travel costs remain the same.

According to SoCar’s CEO, Cho Jeongyeol, the company will now work to bring the service to other areas outside of Seoul. SoCar is Korea’s largest car sharing service, reaching 2.5 million users in February this year and has built up a fleet of 7,000 vehicles since it first launched in 2011.
