Mapping startup Dabeeo has raised 500 million won (USD $445,000) in Series A funding from Mirae Asset and Naver Fund. It’s the third investment for the company, bringing its total funding to 2.5 billion won ($2.2m).
Dabeeo was founded in 2012 as a company offering mobile map platforms and APIs, as well location-based big data services. In 2015 this expanded to indoor mapping services, providing solutions for famous locations such as COEX and Korea’s biggest mall Hanam Starfield.
The startup’s data has been used in many different apps already, including maps for government entities such as the Korea Tourism Organization. Dabeeo also has its own service named ‘Tourplanb’ which provides travel and tourism information in English, Korean and Chinese.
“Through this latest investment, we will accelerate our ongoing research and development such and directly producing next-generation map data technology and the improvement of indoor map and control systems needed for automated robots,” said CEO Park Ju-heum.
From 2018, Dabeeo plans to launch a new robot with built-in map and is also planning to be more competitive in the global market by developing technology for automated vehicles and robots.
