A Team Ventures, the company behind Online 3D printing service Shapengine, has landed 2.3 billion won (USD $2m) in investment from Altos Ventures.

Led by well-known entrepreneur, CEO Go San, A Team Ventures has been expanding its services into the IT manufacturing industry with its online 3D printing service Shapengine. The company has already developed and sells other 3D printing devices such as ‘Creatable D3’ for educational use, and ‘Waggle’ — a remote controller designed for 3D printers.

Shapengine was originally launched in mid-2016 and since then the number of orders its received has doubled every month. The company has been particularly popular with product designers, architects, companies that create a high number of prototypes. Shapengine’s portfolio includes items such as cosmetic containers, lightweight parts, and construction models for new conglomerate buildings.

Another service that A Team Ventures offers creates 3D model files from simple 2D images or sketches, making 3D printing more accessible to everyone.

“As Korea’s first peer-to-peer and online 3D printer sharing service, Shapengine has now expanded into the commercial area of 3D printing,” says CEO Go San. “Based on this latest investment, we will let more people know about our online 3D printing service through more aggressive marketing, and expand our services beyond the commercial sector by introducing various new manufacturing equipment.”

“The 3D printing industry is evolving from a focus on hardware to software as a service (SaaS),” says Alto Ventures CEO Han Kim. “We look forward to A Team Ventures continuing Korea’s status as a leading country in hardware.”
