Wikiwiki is a startup that combines IT solutions with music and has just launched its new commerce platform for second-hand and refurbished instruments called Musician Market.
The service lets users search for and purchase instruments such as guitars, drums, pianos, as well other musical accessories like amps and adapters from independent sellers. Businesses can also use Musician Market to sell refurbished brand name instruments at affordable prices.
According to Wikiwiki, due to the manual-labored nature of manufacturing instruments, approximately 8% of products have some sort of minor defect. But until now, producers have been suffering losses with no way to distribute instruments which sound and work fine, but simply have one or two minor cosmetic flaws. By being able to offer such products to customers at a discount prices through Musician Market, both manufacturers and musicians reap the benefits.
Musician Market also lets musicians register their talents for others to see and earn potential cash. Anyone looking for musicians can browse the list and get in contact with those who have signed up. In addition to this, the website wants to become a way for musicians to connect and communicate with each other via integrated social media features.
Wikwiki was initially selected for support from the Ministry of SME’s and Startups earlier this year and has been using this to develop a new mobile app for Musician Market. This includes using blockchain technology to carry out easier and more secure transactions when purchasing instruments from others. The company also operates an O2O instrument repair service and manufactures and sells ukuleles, guitars and cajóns online.
“Wikiwiki is operates music IT solutions in the form of manufacturing instruments, distribution and repair hubs, and services like Musician Market,” says Planning Team Manager Han Jin-hee. “We are also a media group creating and sharing content through social media and other new channels. By continuing to develop IT services which solve problems in the musical instrument industry, we plan to make a beneficial and convenient ecosystem for instruments.”
